Sometimes there is a person in dreams whose face is not identifiable when one awakes. It may be the Lord. God, the Father, Jesus or the Holy Spirit is identifiable in dreams as Husband, Father, or by other names, such as a person whose name means King or Saviour etc. A husband or father, however can also be one to whom we have wrongly attached ourselves, so we need other elements of the dream to know who it is. Characteristics, behaviours, words and consequences indicate who is in view in the dream. For example if a father is driving the dreamer onto a wide, muddy road, that would be devilish and not divine.

God is never pushy, but kindly firm and affirming. So He will not appear as a bully, or ugly, or nasty in dreams either.

People in dreams are very, very rarely themselves. So don’t go rushing to the phone or person to tell them you have some future prediction for them. God commonly uses the biblical device of names to indicate characteristics. This habit is also used by a lot of classical writers. Besides name meanings, the Holy Spirit uses people in dreams to point out characteristics in the dreamer themselves or to bring that characteristic or ministry to the dreamer. For example, to dream of a farmer / gardener in His garden and be told you need to find the Basil plant is a biblical dream. The farmer in biblical parable is God Himself. Gardens are a biblical theme because major bible events happen within gardens. The ekklesia is also symbolised by a garden. In such a dream as I have described, the planting of the Lord that the dreamer is to find is represented by Basil which means King / Kingdom. the dreamer is being told that He / she doesn’t recognise Jesus as King over his / her life. It doesn’t mean that the dreamer is bad, it just means there is something amiss in either the life of the believer, or how he / she relates to the Lord.

How do I know this? John 20:11 to 18 – When Mary went weeping near Jesus’ tomb, she saw a man whom she thought was a gardener. She asks Him about the dead body of Jesus. Only when He speaks, does she relate to Him as risen Lord.

By going to the scripture the dream indicates, we find that the dreamer is relating to Jesus more as an historical figure, now dead, to imitate, rather than the new creation first fruits empowering his / her life. See 2 Corinthians 5:16.

Another Important Feature of Biblical Dreams

Did you know that two characters appearing with you in a dream may be parts of yourself? I had countless dreams about myself as three-in-one in my earlier dream experiences. In those dreams I was with an old woman (the spotty / wrinkled flesh), and also a lovely light filled young child / or a child whose name means light. Three people: My dream self, the child and the old woman. The job of the dreamer is to see / hear what the Holy Spirit is revealing in such a dream, and at the same time understand themselves to be 3 in one being. That’s

1. Body – the part which we can “see” with our natural eyes.
2. Soul – also sometimes called the carnal nature in the Bible because our “flesh” is weak. Soul means one’s mind, will and emotions. This is the part that gets “transformed” through learning and following God’s word. The way is by lining up with the new spirit within (No 3 below).
3. And Spirit – the inner being which is re-created new and perfectly righteous. This is the part of the believer knit to God (1 Corinthians 6:17).

From this we can learn to be led, not by God outside our being, but the new created spirit being within us. That is attached to God. The Kingdom of God is within – and doesn’t come by “observation”.

In such dreams the “old” me, often appeared as someone I knew who was a very aged person, sometimes even a deceased person who gets up and won’t lie down. One whose name also had the same meaning as mine, or a grandmother of mine who had died.

Behind the Name is a good website to find the variants of one’s name that the Lord commonly uses in this way. For example, I had a number of correctional dreams about “daisies” overtaking me. When I checked this out, I was surprised to find that Daisy was a nickname for Margaret. And of course, the biblical meaning of such a flower as appeared in my dreams was as a symbol of the flesh which must die (as flowers do) and get “thrown into the oven”. Pearl, Peggy etc are all meanings or nicknames for Margaret. I discovered there are very many different variants of Margaret which began to be used in dreams to correct the ascendancy of the flesh in my life.

Once the dreamer “gets it” (the interpretation), the dreams usually cease. That is, unless the dreamer stubbornly won’t repent.

However, if one is stubborn or proud, the dreams may also cease because we may not hear from the Lord in this way if we show no sincere interest in what He is pointing out. God resists the proud. Often, people fail to realise unbelief is linked to pride. But to fail to believe it is the Lord speaking as promised in Joel 2 and Acts 2, in this age is to deny the Word of God.

Yet I have found, if we sincerely want to understand our correction, the Holy Spirit’s patience is great and His persistence is continual.

The shore is where Jesus meets His disciples and says “Come follow Me”, and this is accentuated by the play on words “sure / shore”.

Play on words is a common Hebraic device in Scripture that the Holy Spirit uses in dreams sometimes. It is called a literary device and is common across many languages and cultures. It is certainly common in English, too, another reason the Lord has for using it to strengthen meaning for us in our dreams.

Arising from the sea and walking into the shore / beach is an indication of following Jesus, or being invited to. If there are two of you and one is leading the way, that may well be your born anew spirit leading your soul to follow Jesus. That is how the spirit is intended to work – as leader of the soul (mind, will and emotions).

Doors

Dogs

A dream symbol of a vicious attacker or faithful companion. Which are they – wicked or faithful? Well both, depending on the behaviour of the dog and the context of the dream. They can also be faithful as in Matthew 15:21-28.

As a pet, it can be a favoured / pet belief. Dogs are FAITH-ful to those they belong to / align with as their “pack”. The belief can be truth or delusion.

Dogs also surrounded Jesus in the crucifixion when He was abandoned by His friends (Psalm 22). but these would be symbolise as vicious dogs / threatening.

Dogs can also represent Jewish legalism / circumcision demanded on non-Jewish Christians by ancient Jews. Philippians 3:2. This is because the Bible uses words like “the nations” and “ethnos” to describe those who are works oriented and add human effort to their salvation instead of trusting Christ alone.

Labradors can be symbols of leading the spiritually blind. They can also be a symbol of work, either good works in Christ (1 Corinthians 15:10) or human effort. This could apply to any “working dog”.

DOORS

Doors are openings. Sometimes they appear closed, hard to open. Sometimes the dreamer has the right to open a door; even being asked to open the door; sometimes there is another wanting entry; sometimes another is a dark entity who pushes his way through a door against the dreamer’s will.

Perhaps the most well-known door metaphor is in Revelation 3:20 where Jesus writes to lukewarm believers who have lost their first love. This would only apply to the dreamer if the one knocking is an entity with a name similar to Jesus, such as King, Basil, Joshua, etc.

Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”

Doors are also spoken of metaphorically in the Bible in a number of places:

Job 3: 8 – Birth (being Job’s own birth in this verse) is seen as a door into the world. Rather as he sees death as the other door in Job 38:17.

Job 38:8 – the way the sea is limited in its access to the land is described as a prohibitive door.

Job 38:17 – physical death is described as the passing through a door.

Job 41:14 envisions a monster’s mouth as a door for his food.

Psalm 24:7 and 9. The Psalm is a prophetic picture of an ancient castle door rising for a returning Victor (Jesus Christ) as He enters heaven at the time of the ascension.

Psalm 78:23 These are the doors indicating God’s open hand of provision, also sometimes seen as the windows of heaven (see also Malachi 3:10 ).

Proverbs 8:34 – Imagery of one at home with the Lord in trusting relationship “O the happiness of the man hearkening to me, To watch at my doors day by day, To watch at the door-posts of my entrance.” Youngs Lit Trans.

Isaiah 26:20 Amid the time for judgment of God’s wayward people, the faithful are charged to shut themselves in (doors closed) while His indignation does its work of removing the evil from the land.

Isaiah 57:8 Here, the Lord is symbolising the wickedness His people have done out in the open as well as in their very homes – idolatry in imitation of those nations around them. They were supposed to be a light to the nations and they did the opposite. “Behind doors” means “in your homes”.

Zechariah 11:1 ” Open your doors, O Lebanon,
That fire may devour your cedars.
² Wail, O cypress, for the cedar has fallen,
Because the mighty trees are ruined.
Wail, O oaks of Bashan,
For the thick forest has come down.”  The judgment upon Israel (Judah / Jerusalem) is as through an open door to the north (the direction Israel commonly attacked from).

The secret place of worship between God and a believer, “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” Matthew 6:6

Matthew 24:33 Jesus at the very “door” when He came as judge in in the 3 ½ year war ending with the destruction of the Old Covenant temple. Sacrificial system and law in 70AD – See Daniel 7:9 and Revelation 20:11. Where the word we now translate as “earth” should more correctly be translated as “the land” of those who crucified Jesus. Their house was rendered desolate; they went into the purifying fire as the “false prophet”. Rev 20:9 and 10.

2 Corinthians 2:12-14 Paul wrote of an open door to preach the gospel of Christ.

Revelation 3:8  Favour and safety for the faithful believers, “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.”

Buckets can hold both negative and positive biblical symbolism. In the first, we see the insignificance of the international scene compared to the purpose of God. We should never think God so busy with international affairs, that He has little concern for individuals. He is centred on “the least of these”. That’s the message of the Bible.

In the positive, water flowing out of buckets is a biblical symbol of His generous gift of Himself in His abiding Holy Spirit for anyone who wants Him.

But first the bucket as insignificant national bullies:

Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are considered a speck of dust on the scales; He lifts up the islands like fine dust.

The nations are but a drop of water in a bucket – so says Isaiah 40:15 from Heaven’s perspective. It is a picture of the insignificance of earthly powers, who stand against the plan of God. His plan is to redeem the earth, people – everything that is fallen and messy! If you dream about a Gardener carrying away a bucket with only a drop in it, recall that there is one nation that God has brought anew – His Family, His Garden, i.e., the New Jerusalem in the heavenly realm. These are all different symbols of God’s loving family. This is the wonderful position of Peace to all Men (humanity) that we can live from – and in. Have no fear of politics or powers in 2025, He will keep you under His wonderful wings in all circumstances. Psalm 91

I love dreams with an upturned bucket, with the drop poured out – the nations, also referred to as the ethnos, gentiles, dust, Egypt, Assyria and other ancient enslavers or invaders. They’re all symbols of the unbelieving world – all will be turned through 180 degrees to a state of faith. In the end, God wins and has only one family, His own special people or nation. War ceases when the nations are made one in Christ. Even the bitterest of enemies and invaders – as in Isaiah 19:22-25.

Instinctively in our hearts we know there should be no divisions, no us and them, no war except against evil itself. That is the war Jesus won so we can live inside His “team”.

And this desire for “oneness” comes from God. He has put His plan in our hearts.

Buckets of Flowing Water / Fountains / Rivers of Living Water

The other bucket symbol in the Bible is water flowing from multiple buckets. This is a very positive symbol. It’s the symbol of salvation. The flowing water is seen as fountains, streams, living water in the following passages (plus many more:

In the case of “buckets” of water flowing out, especially where it is a generous / continual flow, we see it is the water flowing which is biblically significant.

Numbers 24:7 “He shall pour water from his buckets, And his seed shall be in many waters. His king shall be higher than Agag, And his kingdom shall be exalted.”

Isaiah 41:18 I will open rivers in desolate heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, And the dry land springs of water.

Isaiah 55:1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters.”

John 4:13 and 14 Jesus speaks to an adulteress drawing water at a well,

^“Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.’”

John 7:37-39

“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”

Revelation 22:1-5 – in this passage the temple / bride has morphed symbolically into the river of Life. The numbers and objects are generally symbols of the spiritual realm as Jesus explained at the start of the book of Revelation1:1 using the term, sēmainō (to reveal using symbols):

“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. ² In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. ³ And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. ⁴ They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. ⁵ There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”

Salary is about “salt”, surprisingly. Salt was such a precious commodity in Bible times, to preserve food. Therefore, salt was sometimes part of the payment of soldiers. Certainly the etymology of the word salary show it comes from the word, salt.

While Wikipedia says Roman soldiers were not paid in salt, it may have been a “salt allowance”, since salt was so important to survival, especially in war time. Salt or salary in a dream speaks of the genuineness of a Christian life – as opposed to just walking in the old, fallen nature.

Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” Matthew 5:13

Back then, salt often had impurities in it, rendering it useless. Pure salt consists of two elements, being the compound sodium chloride.

When a salary appears as a dream detail, it is not generally about money or physical provision. Anything to do with money is going to have a spiritual meaning anyway. It will always be about a person’s character and therefore their heavenly reward (or otherwise, if they lose their “salary or salt”.

We see the theme “money”, is also used in this symbolic way in Isaiah 55:1 in which the Lord invites us to buy from Him without price. This is about His free gift of life in the spirit. That’s how one’s character is designed to change into holiness. It’s His easy free gift, if we are willing to give up our fallen nature.

Here is the passage that is key to dreams about money – notice it is an offering of healthy life, abundance and delight:

“You there! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;
And you who have no money come, buy and eat.
Come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without cost.
² Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And delight yourself in abundance.
³ Incline your ear and come to Me.
Listen, that you may live;
And I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
According to the faithful mercies shown to David.”

(The covenant speaks of God’s binding promise)

Wages, on the other hand are usually about the path of death, sickness, poor relationships etc,

The key passage for this is Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

But there’s also a theme of it in the Old Testament such as in Haggai 1:6:

“You have sown much, only to harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but there is not enough for anyone to get warm; and the one who earns, earns wages to put into a money bag full of holes.”

We also see a reference in Zechariah 11:12 about Judas who betrayed Jesus so that He was crucified. Zechariah 11 is about those who refused to come to Jesus:

“And I said to them, ‘If it is good in your sight, give me my wages; but if not, never mind!’ So, they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages.”

Scots, Scotland or Scottish dance or towns, Tartan or a man called Scott

References to Scottish things such as highland dances, tartan (tribes/ clans also Tartarus), also Gaelic, towns language etc., all relate to Galatians / legalism. This is because the original Galatians were Celts with a fierce history that impacted other nations in the BC era. Gaelic speakers / tribes migrated to many places and later across Europe, through to France (Gaul and related words), England and Ireland and then to Scotland. Biblically from Galatia, which in Paul’s time was a more constrained ethnic group than their fierce forebears, in a dream, they may signify a church falling backwards into legalistic habits.

Any reference to Gaelic, Scotland, tartan etc (etymology relates to Tartarus / Abyss – 2 Peter 2:4) symbolises law keeping instead of trusting Christ alone.

The Sea

In the Bible, there’s two places for all of humanity to be in – in Christ or out of Him. While Jesus Christ died for every person’s spirit regeneration, bringing an end to “soul sleep” and the grave – yet with our “soul” which is an unregenerate part, being our mind, will and emotions, we must choose to be a follower of Christ and live in Him and His gift of righteousness.

The “sea” in dreams is about the unregenerate part of our being. To dream of the sea, is about a soul who is not learning to be transformed by the renewal of the mind. It is most commonly about the dreamer.

It often indicates that the dreamer assumes a self-righteous attitude and is unaware of this in their conscious life. the Holy Spirit is sommunicating this to bring healing of the mind.

The symbolism of the sea which means “outside of Christ” or “the ethnos” is given to us in Revelation a couple of times in particular and a couple of times by allusion:

1. Revelation 17:1 tells us the great harlot, elsewhere described as apostate Jerusalem, sits on many waters. By 17:15 the angel lets John the Revelator know that the “waters” are the natural nations (without Christ).
2. When Revelation 21:1 tells that in the new heaven and earth will be without the sea in the New Jerusalem. In other words, unlike the Old Covenant theocracy where both kinds of people lived in the Promised Land, the newly created spiritual Promised Land will have no natural people in it. Only those guided by the spirit will be there. If they live according to the flesh, they are living outside of Christ.
3. The statement of Jesus, “I will make you fishes of men,” alludes to drawing people out of the sinful world and onto the Promised (dry) Land. “Dry” also being the place where demons hate to be – they want to be in a “wet” place, meaning to inhabit humans who are high % water and “living” – it gives them a body to work evil through.
4. We also see allusions to this in baptism – being buried at sea. 1 Corinthians 10:1 and 2.
5. Floods are also a symbol of judgment throughout the prophets, beginning with Noah’s flood.
6. James 1:6 “But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the doubter is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed about.”
7. Revelation 10:5 “Then the angel (messenger) that I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised · his right hand to heaven.” This was the declaration of “no more delay” of judgment. The messenger is thought by many theologians to be Jesus Christ – He is certainly God’s agent with power (one foot) in both the Promised Land and the unregenerate world (the other foot). It is all under His feet – hence the symbolism of Jesus Christ as victor in the situation of Revelation 10.

Seeds, Beans, Rice

The symbol of seeds is central to the wonderful Bible story of God gathering humanity back to Himself as Father God. It is no surprise, then, that seeds and plants are regular features in biblical dreams.

Jesus tells us that the parable of the sower (someone who plants seeds) is key to understanding all parables (Mark 4:13).

God’s intention for humanity is that every human ever conceived into this world be reconceived with His own “seed”. the bible actually uses the word , “sperma” to describe this happening.

But if we are born of a human egg and sperm, why so we need to be born anew?

The seed parable can be found in Matthew 13:18-23, Mark 4:13-20; Luke 8:11-15. It is so important that the Lord has three writers repeat it. The key to understanding the seed in this parable is that the seed is a symbol of God’s Word, His simple message of the Bible. Christ is also spoken of as God’s Word, and it is He who comes to dwell inside the human heart. You can tell if someone has Jesus Christ in their heart because they start to act like Him.

In the parable of the sower we also have the symbols of soil quality and garden pests. These also appearing dreams about gardens. Here’s Jesus’ run down to help us turn to Him for healing : 1. the birds who rob the seed when it falls on a path, represent the devil who doesn’t want people to be well. 2. The rocks in the soil represent people who have no room in themselves for God’s word and although they receive it with joy, soon wither up, when their love is tested. They have no root (depth) in themselves. 3. The seed that falls among thorns quickly falls away from Jesus. He is more concerned with worries of this life (See Matthew 6:25-34). But the seed landing on good soil means some have good hearts towards God and when they hear the word (receive the seed), they produce a bountiful crop. The crop they produce will be rewarded by God because it is done in His power and not our own.

If you happen to see a gardener, or talk to one in a dream, it is highly likely that entity represents Jesus Christ. He was mistaken for the gardener at the time when He had just risen from the dead. He also depicts Himself as the one looking after His garden in many scriptures. See also the lovely imagery about the bride and groom (Jesus) in their lovers’ garden in the Song of Solomon. The Letter S – Silver

Silver is not an uncommon biblical dream symbol. Vehicles with wheels, boats, coins and instruments and a variety of objects can appear in dreams as silver in colour.

When we dream of something silver, we take note of other features of the objects. For example, how many silver coins or vehicles? Size, number and odd things all add context to the dream’s message.

Interestingly, silver has healing properties. Before pharmaceuticals were regulated so tightly, colloidal silver was used as an antibiotic for people. It kills germs by surrounding the cell membrane and destroying it, and therefore the bacterium it held. That said, it shouldn’t be ingested as it would destroy healthy gut bacteria. But on grazes, cuts and burns it will sterilize the wound. It is still used by vets and in hospital burns units today. It is cheap because it uses so little silver; it is easy to produce and can be done with very simple equipment if one has that knowledge and skill. Colloidal silver is God’s gift.

Silver is also a gift of God, when used wisely, and a great symbol of the healing power of God.

As such, silver is a biblical symbol of atonement / salvation and restoration as illustrated in a number of Bible passages. The most significant one I love is the ransom money in Exodus 30:12:

Exodus 30: 11 “Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ¹² “When you take the census of the children of Israel for their number, then every man shall give a ransom for himself to the Lord, when you number them, that there may be no plague among them when you number them.“

The use of this silver, as we see in the construction of the tabernacle, was in both hooks and sockets. (Bronze was also used in various places / symbol of judgment).

Exodus 38: 25And the silver from those who were numbered of the congregation was one hundred talents and one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary: ²⁶ a bekah for each man (that is, half a shekel, according to the shekel of the sanctuary), for everyone included in the numbering from twenty years old and above, for six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty men. ²⁷ And from the hundred talents of silver were cast the sockets of the sanctuary and the bases of the veil: one hundred sockets from the hundred talents, one talent for each socket. ²⁸ Then from the one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five shekels he made hooks for the pillars, overlaid their capitals, and made bands for them.“

A thousand pieces of silver was Sarah’s vindication (some translations use the word “rebuke’”) but it justified Sarah and enriched our spiritual father, Abraham. It spoke of Sarah’s restoration to her husband, since Abraham is a type / shadow of God our Father who would send His son.

The Old Testament is rich in symbolism regarding atonement and restoration using silver as a picture of what Jesus Christ would do for humanity. This was not just individual salvation, but also depicts the abundant life of Christ in us, together as the redeemed people of God:

Numbers 10:2 “Make two silver trumpets for yourself; you shall make them of hammered work; you shall use them for calling the congregation and for directing the movement of the camps.

Numbers 18:16 “And those redeemed of the devoted things you shall redeem when one month old, according to your valuation, for five shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerahs.”

Silver symbolises what is precious to humanity; principally God, Himself. Job 22:25 “Yes, the Almighty will be your gold And your precious silver.”

Silver speaks of purity. It is a symbol of God’s Word. Jesus Christ is that “Word”, which believers are called to be formed as through the refining, not of their spirit, which is redeemed, but of their soul (mind, will and emotions) which is refined through the renewal of the mind through study of the Word. The specific scriptures for this as a symbol are Psalm 12:6 “The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times” And:

Psalm 66:10 “For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined.” And

Proverbs 17:3 “The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But the Lord tests the hearts.”

Refining fire is seen by many Christians as “par for the course” in the Christian life. A key text is Malachi 3: 2  which predicted the arrival of John the Baptist who brought a strong, clear message of repentance to Israel, preparing the way for Messiah:

“But who can endure the day of His coming?
And who can stand when He appears?
For He is like a refiner’s fire
And like launderers’ soap.
³ He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver;
He will purify the sons of Levi,
And purge them as gold and silver,
That they may offer to the Lord
An offering in righteousness.”

Thirty pieces of silver was the betrayal price Judas received and also lost / discarded before his death. The amount fulfilled the type in Exodus 21: 32

“If the ox gores a manservant or maidservant, the owner must pay thirty shekels of silver to the master of that servant, and the ox must be stoned.”

The goring ox was killed, just as Satan was judged at the crucifixion and “cast out”. John 12:31-32 31 “Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

The number 30 in association with silver speaks of the cost of salvation and liberation from the Kingdom of darkness. Thus silver and redemption are tied also in the New Testament:  Colossians 1: 13 – 14  “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,  in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”

Acts 3:6  shows healing as a gift that any believer can give, even if they have no money. “Then Peter said, ‘Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.’”  To dream of no silver /gold, depending on the context, could mean you are needed to heal the sick.

Silver as a negative / warning symbol

Israel was warned against allowing a future king to amass “silver” as it could be a snare for him – ^“Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself.”  But unfortunately, Solomon amassed many wives and much silver, in fact, Solomon made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones.

Silver can also symbolise idolatry. See Psalm 135:15 “The idols of the nations are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands.” And also, Acts  “

And in Ecclesiastes 5:10, “He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.”

There are many Old Testament scriptures relating silver to idolatry.

Ezekiel 16:17 expands the sin of idolatry to backslidden idolatry. These have known the Lord and been graced by Him only to take His gifts and make idols of them:  “You have also taken your beautiful jewellery from My gold and My silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself male images and played the harlot with them.”

So, in some dreams we can see silver as a snare to idolatry; it depends on the context and other symbols used in the dream.

But in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream we see that all the symbols, including silver, all the world’s leaders / empires are superseded / crushed by the King of Kings, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is The Mountain (Zion) spiritually understood as one head with His one body – inseparable – His ekklēsia over which He is head. All come into Him as in Hebrews 12:22 “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, … It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. “

SISTER

In dreams, when a sister appears she is a picture of wisdom personified. Often a sister in a dream is showing you the Holy Spirit within yourself – your newly created being as compared to your soul. This is because the Holy Spirit brings the wisdom / meaning of God’s Word to you; whereas, our soul is usually trying to bring the old nature thinking back. This is why we need to renew our mind, bringing it into line with the new creation within – as in the second scripture below. When we renew our minds, we find mental / mind healing follows because the disconnect has been eroded. Science now teaches us that this biblical truth has a physical effect on our brain neurons, eroding old harmful proteins and therefore thoughts, and replacing them with healthy ones.

Proverbs 7 ESV

My son, keep my words
    and treasure up my commandments with you;
² keep my commandments and live;
    keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;
³ bind them on your fingers;
    write them on the tablet of your heart.
⁴ Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
    and call insight your intimate friend,
⁵ to keep you from the forbidden^[a] woman,
    from the adulteress^[b] with her smooth words.

Romans 12:2 ESV

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. ² Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

To leave our old religious Old Covenant thinking and allow the Holy Spirit to renew our minds is the spiritual worship He desires. He doesn’t require us to be in a building and follow a “service”. That is not seen as worship in the New Testament.

We ought not try to follow Paul’s directions to the Corinthians’ meetings as an idea of worship. They are seen as the most carnal ekklēsial group in the New Testament. Worship is not mentioned for their meetings. Learning certainly was mentioned as they were very much baby Christians, needing spiritual gifts to manifest because of their soulish behaviours. They weren’t living in the new creation, even though they were saved. They did not yet have “the fullness of Christ” that we are meant to have. We note that no other groups were given instructions like those given to the selfish and self-aggrandising Corinthians.

The Letter S – Spider

Spiders and their webs are a symbol of wickedness involving injustice. The webs depict evil plans involving lies to entrap – hence the injustice. The flimsy nature of the web is compared biblically in this chapter with the clothing of righteousness – by implication and contrast. In Isaiah 59, spiders are coupled with “vipers”. Those who follow this way will never know peace. It is the opposite of righteousness which brings peace. Jesus is the Prince of peace which He gives to those of a contrite heart and humble heart. The chapter also names the Redeemer who comes to “stand in the gap” bringing “recompense to His enemies and salvation to those who turn from transgression in Jacob” (ancient Israel) verses 18 to 20.

The Letter S – Sweep, Brush

Instructions to sweep or brush something into another condition or state, usually clean, but also sometimes to brush “dry” or sweep “dry”, is a symbol of deliverance being needed. This is the believer’s job in Christ.

It may be that the believer / dreamer is instructed to sweep something, usually an item of clothing, dry. In natural terms, this hardly makes sense. But the dry place is to the exclusion of anything demonic.

Luke 11:24 – 26 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order.  Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”

A demon cannot rest in dry places.

The dry is “anydros” – without water, dry, See its use in 2 Pet. 2:17 and Jude 12. It means barren and lifeless, as in a desert.

A demon, seeking a live body, needs the life which water supports (bios) and so outside of a living being, animal or man, demons cannot have expression which the bible speaks of as their “rest” or abode (anapausis).

“Sweeping” can also symbolise the desire of the Lord for a believer to repent. The diligent woman of Luke 15:8 also “swept” her house, presumably of dust and maybe the odd small crumbs of food, to find the kingdom coin. “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbours together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’ Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

The message here is that it is God who seeks the lost as the Gospel is preached and repentance restores the sinner to his saint position.

Has anyone had a dream about playing monopoly and then building with lego? Did you know this is a biblical dream of liberty from God’s precious Holy Spirit to help us carry out God’s plans for humanity?

It’s all about the power of our words – and Jesus tells us we are going to give account for all our words – even the little idle things we say. Because we are made in God’s image, as children always take after their parents – so we create with our words. God wants us to create good, health and well-being and not bring evil by our words.

Monopoly literally means “the right of exclusive sale” – we are bought with a price. But we are bought outright and not even a fragment of us now belongs to anyone but the loving Father God in Jesus Christ. He paid for our sin nature with His death. This is a good thing because it keeps us from the evil one, who is the one who steals, kills and destroys.

But  lego may seem a strange “game” to be engaged in for believers in Christ until you look at the Greek meaning of the words, “to speak, to say, said, etc”.

It is “legō” in the Greek. So, when John 14:6 says, “Jesus said, ‘I am the Way the Truth and the Life,”  that is what we build our new born clean life on. We are “in Him” made righteous. Now we are empowered to build good things.

In so many places this little word “legō” (in various forms*) appears in the original language of the Greek New Testament. There is a key here because Jesus tells us in Mark 11:22-24 that we can have what we say when we trust Him:

^‘ So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

As His royal priesthood we can command sickness and disease to leave people’s bodies, just as Jesus did in His day. We are meant to be His operation in the earth. His death and resurrection have paid the price of sin and re-instated us as God’s sons and daughters. We have the dominion given back that was lost in the Garden of Eden.

We thank God that He works in us; it is not our strength or words we declare, but His. And His word is set even above His name. Sickness must leave.

Rabbits / Hares

Rabbits can appear in dreams as a single pet rabbit, in numbers, or even as a dead rabbit. Because rabbits are dream symbols of unclean food (food being a key symbol of the Word of God). The better rabbit in a dream would be a dead one, indicating the problem is fixed, unless of course one is carrying it around or mourning over it. Rabbits and hares are said in the Old Testament to be unclean animals, not to be eaten. while these health restrictions were types before the cross of Christ, and don’t apply now in the same way, they can appear in dreams as symbols of something unclean. Most commonly in dreams, rabbits symbolise false prophecy or mis-interpreted Scripture.

The references for this “uncleanness” are Leviticus 11: 1-8 and Deuteronomy 14:7.

The rabbit was disqualified as “clean” food on only one count: its feet are not a cloven hoof. To be edible, the mammal would need to have both a cloven (divided) hoof and also be one to chew its cud. The rabbit, like sheep, goats and cattle does chew its cud, meaning, generally, healthier meat for the consumer. But the fact that the rabbit has paws like a dog or cat, puts it in the “unclean” category.

Rabbits, like the leaven of the Pharisees, are able to multiply quickly and become a devourer of crops. Their foraging destroys the roots of plants and crops. They can come to plague proportions. As such they are symbolic of sin, unbelief, legalism and harm to human well-being. Much of our understanding of this symbolism comes from the key parable Jesus introduced His disciples to in Matthew 13, the parable of The Sower and the Seed. The parable is repeated in Mark 4 and Luke 8.

This parable, according to Jesus, in Mark 4:13 is foundational to understanding the way He speaks to us in parables. It is foundational because it introduces us to the ways that Satan can rob us of His life giving word. Therefore, dreams about rabbits are not just a correction which may make us feel bad – rabbit dreams give us key understanding about what we can do to fix our problematic misapprehension.

The sin that the rabbit symbolises would therefore be about mishandling Scripture in such a way that devours its true meaning. See Matthew 13:19.

If a believer dreams of having a pet rabbit, it may indicate a sin / habit that displeases the Lord regarding the Word of God. It is being pointed out because the believer is unaware of in waking life. Usually when this is given by the Holy Spirit it is intended to bring liberty to the individual. Sometimes the deliverance comes during the dream, sometimes as the believer prays about its meaning and searches the scriptures which are also indicated by other symbols in the dream, or dreams occurring around the same time. Yet it is possible to ignore the warning if the habit is one’s pet doctrine. It depends on one’s willingness to be corrected by the Holy Spirit through God’s word and word gifts, such as dreams which point to the necessary Bible passages.

The most common error we see is when folk don’t see the Bible passages in the dream because they are unfamiliar with the ways of the Holy Spirit.

Yet if one has been given a rabbit dream from the Lord, He will clarify the problem when the dreamer presses into His Holy Spirit for the clarification and healing.

Dreaming of animals which have no cloven hoof may well indicate one is not “dividing” the Gospel of peace correctly, hence their own feet may appear also in that same set of dreams. Black shoes in such a dream would indicate sin – missing the gospel. The shoes of the Gospel of Peace are part of one’s armour. We read about Gospel feet in Isaiah 52:7″How lovely on the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who announces peace And brings good news of happiness, Who announces salvation, And says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Paul picks this up in Romans 10:15 “And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ” ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!‘ “ Paul also alludes to this in his well-known armour passage of Ephesians 6:15 “… and having strapped on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace.”

Dividing the Word of Truth rightly, is important if we are to stay on Jesus’ narrow path walking with Him. That truth involves healing.

So if you have had a dream about a rabbit, especially a pet / tame rabbit, the Lord is calling you into healing given from His hand.

So we the Holy Spirit to show us where our error of scriptural understanding lies. That will take a choice on our part. It may take some follow up learning. But each time we learn more of His Way, we walk in more and more liberty of soul. We take on more of Jesus Christ.

This continuing transformation of our mind and emotions – into the image of God’s Son is His will for all of us, so walk in His power in it! Align with the newly created spirit He has gifted us with. We won’t be sorry!

2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” (NASB) The New King James says “rightly dividing” the word of truth. And we see that this is the only time this expression is used in the New Testament. It is the word  ὀρθοτομέω (orthotomeō) – “to cut straight; to set forth truthfully, without perversion or distortion,” As with the cloven feet of our dream symbolism, it speaks of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Like the faith of Abraham – He whose children we are if we are of faith – Abraham cut the animals in two – simple division – and God made that wonderful covenant with Abraham, in readiness for the greatest covenant we are now under. Because of the cross, the temple veil was torn in two….. that we might be forgiven and healed. Not for vainglory, into misinterpreted scripture, but to grow in His image and to walk with Jesus in Christ who draws us into the Father’s loving arms.

Roof

When a roof is featured in a dream, it is usually in association with a house or other protective structure. sheds, garages, caravans, rotundas – they all generally have a roof. A roof protects from bad features of the weather, such as rain, excess sun, wind and also from enemies.

Some dream dictionaries may list a roof as symbolising a pastor, elder or church as your covering. This is simply not so. But many churches and preachers today tell their congregants that they must come under some human / church covering. this has been shown to be a serious backwards step, as our only covering is Christ, depicted as the covering on the Atonement Seat. See Exodus 25:10 to 22.

To interpose another “layer” of professional clergy between God in Christ and the believer is to subscribe to a backwards movement into Old Covenant practice. This was done in a big and influential way in the twentieth century. Many church leaders still hold to the practice, which causes bondage and coercion for many people.

What is often taught in orthodox Christianity is the absolute necessity of becoming a member of a local denomination, with a financial commitment to the upkeep of its buildings and salaries as well as at least weekly attendance at its Sunday meetings. There is generally only one verse used to back this demand. It is Hebrews 10:25. Generally, it is understood that no doctrine can be established without the testimony of two scriptures – but this is the only one usually offered to pressure people into believing it says one must be in a building on Sunday morning. But the verse is not written for that purpose.

Our covering is God in Christ, and the condition and context of a dream roof is symbolic of our relationship with our Saviour. Scriptures for this truth are: Psalm 91; Matthew 23:37. See also Genesis 3:21 (clothing also covers and is symbolic of Christ, especially over the heart or private parts – covering shame) Psalm 5:11; 12:1-8; 18:2; 32:7; Proverbs 10:12 because God is love who covers sin in the Old Testament.

Rooms

Dreams about rooms are common biblical dreams. They contain an important liberating and comforting message from the Father.

When we read John Chapters 14 to 16, most people have been taught that the rooms in “My Father’s House”, were “mansions” in heaven when we die – meaning some grand estates.

But we know that when Jesus spoke about  “My Father’s House” in other places, He was speaking of the temple where the ancient Israelites met with their God. This temple was about to change from a physical building to a spiritual place that had hitherto been impossible for fallen humans. The cross made the way open for God’s indwelling to be knitted to the human spirit.

All three chapters were about Jesus preparing them for both the cross and then the joy of the Holy Spirit indwelling them (and us). It wasn’t about after death mansions. It was about intimate relationship with the Father in the spirit for everyone now.

This word “rooms” in our recent translations is correct. The Old King James Bible translated it “mansions’, coming from the original μοναὶ (monai) which means a lodging house or rooms. The meaning of mansion in English originally meant a room or lodging at the time of the publication of the King James Bible. Only in more modern times did the word mansion change to mean a wealthy estate. So the original meaning of the Koine Greek word was “rooms”.

In our dreams we have two types of “rooms” – ones that are “home”, meaning where we are knitted to Christ in our spirit as perfect righteousness (1 Corinthians 6:17). And there is also a symbol of a room or rooms in our soul, which may need cleaning, or sweeping or other activities, symbolising bringing the soul (the mind) into transformation (Romans 12:2) to line up with God’s perfect spirit within us.

The context of John 14-16 is Jesus comforting His disciples about His “departure” and return, first via the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and then later in judgment of those who killed Himself and all the martyrs (Matthew 23:35 and Rev 6:11).

The whole context of Jesus’ dialogue with them is telling them He’s not going to leave them orphans, But will send “the Comforter” to them – the Holy Spirit who is indeed Jesus and the Father as well – see John 14:23. This is exactly what Jesus was explaining to the sexually sinful Samaritan woman about at the well – worship would no longer be confined to a building – but in the spirit of each individual John 4:23. Incidentally, we note that His evangelism with the Samaritans never included threats of Gehenna fire. That was left to the religious hypocrites.

Rooms, also known as “chambers” in the Bible were the different parts of the “temple. Our “temple” in the new covenant is our own selves. In particular, dreams deal with the parts that need to be either accessed (the spirit) or renewed (the soul or mind, will and emotions). The soul, primarily needing renewing, according to Romans 12:1 and 2 , starts with our mind. So rooms can symbolise the different levels of thinking we have as we move up through the transformation of the mind according to the Word of God and into more and more mental healing which naturally leads to physical healing.

Rosemary

Rosemary, appearing in a dream as a woman, may be the symbolic meaning of the name as Rose + Mary, the symbol of the herb or a real person by that name.

Rose – means “famous type” and may allude to the types and shadows of the Old Covenant. If this is so, there would most likely be other symbols to tie in with this notion.

Mary – is originally a Hebrew name from Egypt, Miriam (Moses sister) bore this name. It has dual meanings of bitterness and beloved. When you think of what we know of Miriam, both apply.

Rosemary, appearing in a dream as a person, may reference the herb which has a meaning of “dew of the sea”. In this case it would probably come with other “sea” references about gentiles, the mass of unsaved humanity. This would be a more obscure symbol and I haven’t seen it used as such.

If it is about the herb as a green plant, it may be about remembrance – that is why we associate Jesus’ sacrifice for us every time we eat our bread and wine. Because dreams using this name are more common on Remembrance Day – this is a common biblical dream symbol. We remember Jesus’ sacrifice just as we do for veterans. Even the appearance of a girl / woman called Rosemary may indicate the need for the dreamer to remember Jesus Christ and all he has done for us. This is peculiar to cultures that know the plant has this meaning.

It could also possibly be about the character of the person Rosemary you know, or more particularly if she is a person from your past.

It could be a combination of the above.

In particular, a man dreaming about a liaison with a former girlfriend, or ex by any name, is being warned of falling back into a bad habit or sin. The espousing of oneself being akin to adultery as a symbol of unfaithfulness. It would depend on the context of the dream.

Running

Running a race symbolises living in the Spirit of Christ through one’s life in obedience to the Father’s will. the Jesus and the writers of the epistles assure this is possible. We are never asked to do something that our indwelling Holy Spirit won’t empower us to do.

2 Timothy 4 :7 and 8, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

“His (Jesus) appearing” refers to the coming justice for believers in 70AD and vindication of the martyrs. Those who are glad the end came to the “building made with hands” are the ones who love that Jesus kept His word and returned to judge within His own generation. They are the ones “running” the race and unashamed of the Gospel. To dream of running in your race, now, in this Messianic age, therefore, identifies the dreamer as Christ’s and not a hypocrite.

Hebrews 12:1 and 2 was written to Jewish Christians under dreadful persecution, not long before the Roman-Jewish war. the writer had to encourage them not to go back to the temple ceremonial law and sacrifices. Although they were believers in Christ, their families and work guilds were making them economic and social outcasts on account of their faith in Christ. some of these believing Jews, therefore, had turned back, under family pressure, to animal sacrifices. The writer of Hebrews warns them that this will lead to their destruction because at the close of “that generation” the temple, those who had not become believers, those who had pierced and crucified Him, and sentenced Paul (including Caiaphas – Matthew 26:64) would meet destruction / judgment. This is what “the clouds” represent / symbolise consistently in the Bible (God’s presence and earthly judgment in wars). This persecution, leading up to the judgment being put in place in heaven also was what the epistles were steeling the believers against, urging a life of faith to combat the trials:

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, ² looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” The sin referred to here is compromise, having a foot in both camps and therefore denying Christ when under pressure.

As with most actions, the context is important. Is the person or animal running with someone / something? Running with someone / something (not as a race) is to be one with that entity in relationship – could be Christ. Song of Solomon 1:2 to 4.

But to lose “weights” in a dream and start to run, identifies the runner as belonging to Jesus. Remember the people in dreams are often representations of one’s own personhood, your body, your soul or your spirit. In our Father’s image, we are three in one person.

North

This is the place / direction of the Lord and also the place from which judgment comes on the land as seen in:

• Leviticus 1:11- sacrifice is on the north side of the altar. Priests often face north in the Old Testament which is a symbol of the direction of God.
• Deuteronomy 2:3 – turn to the inheritance God gives you – it is spiritual
• Psalm 75:6 and 7 says ‘north’ by implication
  • For exaltation comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: He puts down one and exalts another.
• Zechariah 6:8 regarding horse drawn chariots which are symbolic of ministry “…See those who go to the north country have given rest to my Spirit in the north country.”
• Isaiah 14:13
• Ezekiel 40:46 in 46:19 and 20 we see that God (true north), has the priests boil the trespass offering at the extreme western end.

Judgment on the land: The enemies of Israel attacked from the North as a geographic necessity. To have North mentioned in a dream may also imply impending judgment, chastisement from the Lord. To know this one must look to the context of the dream.

• Jeremiah  1:13-16  “And the word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north.”  Then the Lord said to me, “Out of the north the evil will be unleashed on all the inhabitants of the land. For, behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the Lord; “and they will come and place, each one of them, his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls around, and against all the cities of Judah. And I will pronounce My judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, since they have abandoned Me and have offered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands. “
• Ezekiel 26:7 “For the Lord God says this: “Behold, I am going to bring upon Tyre from the north Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, with horses, chariots, cavalry, and a great army.”
• That the bible is clear on these invasions as being agents of God’s will in the first instance (even though they exceeded it) and were also punished – shows that God is sovereign even over political will.

East – The glory of the Lord comes from the east – Ezekiel 43:1 – 5 The glory of the Lord filled the temple (that’s His true ekklēsia in this age).

West – The sun sets in the west, bringing night / darkness. This is sometimes a symbol in dreams. The sea (Mediterranean) was also to the west of the land. Biblical symbolism has the sea as the place where the beast arises from and also the vast multitudes of ethnos or nations as yet unsaved. The sea is generally seen as the world.

South – this is the direction of Egypt from “the land”. Since land in dreams represents Kingdom spiritual living, any mention of South in dreams indicates worldliness or the fallen nature. Often dreams depict a believer travelling south, often on a dusty or clay road which is not straight and narrow. These things together symbolise abandoning the Way of Christ.

Tartan -see also entry on “Scots”

Tartan is used by the Holy spirit for people whose culture gives the familiarity with Scottish things and ideas. Tartans are not in the Bible, but dreams are personally tailored for individual growth and liberty – such is the love of God for individuals. Holy Spirit will use things in our own cultural awareness, interests and occupations as well as Hebrew culture to symbolise things for us in a personal way. Many in our culture are aware of the ancient Scottish superstitions surrounding tartans, the exclusivism and right to wear certain tartans along with the family / tribal pride etc., This pride is mirrored by the Pharisees of Jesus’ time on earth. And God resists the proud and relates to those who are humble and inclusive.

Tartan cloth in dreams, therefore, also easily relates to “Tartarus” in the Bible as these words share origin. Tartarus means to be placed in chains / bondage ready for the judgment of 70AD. And that’s exactly what the spiritual forces and those who had opposed Jesus were bound for when Peter wrote the following verses. Tartarus is picture language for a “dark pit”, 2 Peter 2:3 – 5.

But 70AD is well and truly passed and we live in a very different “age” to the Old Covenant age which had to pass away in 70AD. So today that Bible verse, which is the only place this word appears in the whole Bible, is sometimes incorrectly translated as “hell”. But Peter was warning against living out of our own emotions and soul instead of what he (Peter) had been preaching – to live “in Christ” from the power of the new spirit Christ puts in us.

Tartan in dreams speaks of abandoning the old life. It is most likely going to appear in dreams where church people are attending a church with Old Covenant practices while preaching the opposite. The people are held in bondage; they are often sick or depressed, feeling most of the time in a “dark pit”.

Tartan is also a symbol of clans or tribes because each Scots clan has either its own special tartan or is under the tartan of a bigger clan. Tribes in dreams speak of the ancient tribes of Israel and usually refers to Old Covenant practices as well.

In dreams tartan is a symbol of standing against the free gift of life in the cross. It appears when a believer lives out of their own old nature and not the righteous new creation birthed within them in the spirit. Most commonly, the dreamer himself / herself cannot distinguish clearly between the new created spirit and their soul that should be renewing as in Romans 12:2.

Dreams about these things are never given to condemn, but to point to the super-abundant life Jesus offers.

In a dream with tartan, the Lord is showing that their life needs to come into line with His spirit that He has put in them. John 14:23

Teeth, Missing, Rotten, Falling Out and Dentist

Teeth are mentioned in the Bible in relation to the symbol of appropriating God’s Word as food. When the teeth depicted in a biblical dream are human, particularly those of the dreamer, they are the first step in digestion (of God’s Word), cutting into the food, breaking it down into smaller pieces so that it can be digested and used (lived / give life).

However, if the teeth are those of a frightening wild beast, they mean something else, as in Deuteronomy 32:24, “They will be wasted by famine, and emaciated by plague And a bitter epidemic; And the teeth of beasts I will send against them, with the venom of crawling things of the dust.”

Shattered teeth implies wickedness punished by God, Psalm 3:7 “Arise, Lord; save me, my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked.”

But a tooth which is chipped or broken may mean something else, as follows:

The most common dreams are those concerning the dreamer and his / her misunderstandings of the Word. Often they are a correction of misunderstood theology – and there’s plenty of that around.

If one dreams of looking in the mirror, this symbolises seeing yourself as you are spiritually. If, in the mirror, a dreamer is shocked at their own teeth being brown, ugly, rotten / falling out from the gums, we can see that their theology is in a very bad state indeed. But if one takes a humble attitude and enquires of the Lord in the matter, one can also dream of new baby teeth coming – milk teeth and the promise of good teeth.

Milk teeth replacing rotten teeth symbolise a return to the milk of the Word. The milk of the Word of God is that elementary or basic Word for the immature (baby’s milk symbol) as described in Hebrews 6:1 and 2

• repentance from dead works
• of faith toward God
• instruction about washings and laying on of hands
• the resurrection of the dead
• and eternal judgment. 

Now this happens quite often to people who may have been Christians for years, even decades or all of their lives. So, the first reaction is that they can’t possibly have their foundational learning incorrect. However, in interactions with the dream ministry, we find that most errors the Lord seeks to correct are indeed foundational. In the matter of the “Great White Throne Judgment” mentioned as foundational learning in Hebrews 6 above, we see that some cannot progress in their spiritual walk because of a misunderstanding of what God says in His Word about this matter.

It is also seen as foundational when we realise that what is said about God’s judgment of people relates to His character as just. And yet much of our institutional church doctrine has not only kept people, to some measure, “in the dark”, but also maligned the character of God. God is other than we have thought. We may even find, that despite trying to “read” the Bible diligently, we have been misreading it.

Trees

Trees

 Trees in dreams most commonly represent people. They can be healthy trees with good fruit, or dry, dead trees with no fruit or bad fruit. Not every tree in a dream has fruit, however, and fruit can appear in dreams apart from trees, of course.

Psalm 1:1-3 is the classic Psalm describing this symbol.

“Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the Law of the Lord,
And on His Law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.”

A tree or vine with someone pruning it speaks of the Holy Spirit correcting the dreamer, so that he / she produces the fruit that Jesus is looking for. John 15:2

Similarly, a farmer fertilizing the soil at the base of the tree means the believer is walking contrary to the Lord and needs feeding the right Word of God to follow Jesus’ Way and have Jesus’ fruit in His / her life. The farmer often symbolises our Heavenly Father.

A mustard tree represents the Kingdom of God which has small beginnings and will one day encompass everything that is. This last concept is the restoration of all things (Acts 3:21). Things of mustard colour may also indicate Kingdom business – eg a mustard coloured satchel or briefcase.

Trees are typically green, although they may have other colours in dreams to depict other issues or behaviours of individuals.

The Green Olive Tree as a depiction of the Family of God

Jesus, Himself is the green Tree of Life – a picture of moisture, full sap, as opposed to the dry tree of Luke 23:31. The imagery is of large and powerful provision and fruitfulness / shade etc.

Trees often symbolise men of various characters in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, beginning and ending with the Tree of Life.

David describes himself as one who trusts in the mercy of God. “But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.” Psalm 52:8

Jeremiah quotes God’s use of “Green Olive Tree” as a name for His chosen people. “The Lord called your name, Green Olive Tree, Lovely and of Good Fruit. With the noise of a great tumult, He has kindled fire on it, And its branches are broken.” Jeremiah 11:16

This verse is from the passage describing Judah’s covenant breaking:

“What has My beloved to do in My house,
Having done lewd deeds with many?
And the holy flesh has passed from you.
When you do evil, then you rejoice.
The Lord called your name,
Green Olive Tree, Lovely and of Good Fruit.
With the noise of a great tumult
He has kindled fire on it,
And its branches are broken.”

The couch / bed of the covenant is expressed as “green” by the Shulamite. She says of her Beloved: “Behold, you are handsome, my beloved! Yes, pleasant! Also, our bed is green.” Song of Solomon 1:16

See also the green pastures of Psalm 23:2 – the “green pastures” are also rendered “tender grass” which all sheep prefer because of its sweetness.

Thus, “under every green tree” repeated many times in the Bible speaks of the idolatry / spiritual adultery despite God’s care and provision. Israel / Judah was throwing God’s kindness and providence (green as in fruitful earth) back in His face.

Green grass and dried (dead grass / dead wood – Luke 23:31) and hay that burns) are contrasted throughout scripture to describe things such as the fruit of a godly life, the brevity of earthly life etc. See also Jesus’ predictive comment on the persecution He received which pointed to the war of 70 AD which brought to an end the temple system (dry wood) – the generation of those who had cried “Crucify Him!” to Rome (Pilate).

And typically again, the cross is the dry tree on which Jesus took the curse of sin away from the world, Galatians 3:10 -13; 4:5; Acts 5:30; And 2 Corinthians 5:21 assures us that this sacrifice of Jesus has made us the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. How wonderful he is!

Wage / Wages

Wages are usually about the path of death, sickness, poor relationships etc. If your dream about “salary”, then go to the entry under the letter S.

The key passage for wages is Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

But there’s also a theme of it in the Old Testament such as in Haggai 1:6:

“You have sown much, only to harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but there is not enough for anyone to get warm; and the one who earns, earns wages to put into a money bag full of holes.”

We also see a reference in Zechariah 11:12 about Judas who betrayed Jesus so that He was crucified. Zechariah 11 is about those who refused to come to Jesus:

“And I said to them, ‘If it is good in your sight, give me my wages; but if not, never mind!’ So, they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages.”

Week or Weekend in Dreams

Weekend is a very important word if it appears in dreams. As is its opposite “week”. The word “week” in Greek is the same word as Sabbath or “rest” that we have in Christ – σάββατον (sabbaton).

But weekend symbolises the end of rest, meaning “no rest”.  If you or your characters are said to have a weekend, that means your life lacks the true rest of the New Covenant. We are taught in the New Testament to keep “in Him”, meaning, in peace / rest – a state of “the easy yoke” not the difficult one of going under our own steam.

The week is also about creation. So weekend means the end of believing the new creation dominion of the believer. That is the failure of achieving rest. Again, Jesus said the Sabbath is for man, not man to serve the Sabbath. So when we enter His spiritual rest, it is for our health and benefit. If we make it a law to keep a special day and think that is pleasing God, Old Covenant style, we have moved ourselves back under law where there is now no longer a place of rest. the letter of the law kills, in Christ we have life in super abundance and health. See Hebrews 4:1-10 below.

The Sabbath rests – not just the Saturday of the Old Testament, were many rest times in festivals which depicted or symbolised Jesus Christ. If we try to just keep Saturday (or even Sunday) as a day without work, we miss the point of Christ fulfilling all the law for us. We fail to “enter rest” and can become ill in body.

He is our Sabbath rest. No-one is to judge us as to one day a week “rest” from labour. Indeed, we live in His rest and that is where health resides – in our salvation:

See Hebrews 4:1-10 – “Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. ² For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. ³ For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:

“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”

although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; ⁵ and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”

Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, ⁷ again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

⁸ For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. ⁹ There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. ¹⁰ For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.“

Windows in Dreams

Windows in dreams can have a positive or negative connotation. Even negative things in dreams are sent to help and guide us.

We need to note the person or people or other objects in relation to the window. Also other features like its state, size and position. Is there glass? Or is it just an square / rectangular opening in a wall? If glass, are they open or closed?

If you are a woman and it is your husband looking though windows at you / someone, then this is the metaphor of Jesus we see in the Song of Solomon 2:9.

“My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Behold, he is standing behind our wall, He is looking through the windows, He is peering through the lattice.”

If there is a negative feeling in the dream and a context of things going wrong, such as earth quakes and an open window up high (heaven) then this symbolises judgment that the dreamer is likely to be walking in. It is a warning dream. We see this as a symbol in Isaiah 24:18.

“Then it will be that the one who flees the sound of terror will fall into the pit, And the one who climbs out of the pit will be caught in the snare; For the windows above are opened, and the foundations of the earth shake.”

A dirty window in a dream speaks of an inability to see spiritual things.

To break a window is a refusal to acknowledge spiritual truth.

A car windscreen is similar, if there is a tradesman’s vehicle (Australia uses the term “ute” or “utility”; in the US I believe they call it a “truck”) carrying timber and it blocks the wind screen view, one is being shown one’s own self-righteous hypocrisy. This is especially so if the timber is painted white. See Matthew 7:3-5 and Matthew 23:27 -28.

Similarly something like wood in the eye speaks of the same thing.

Windows can also speak of being able to see through; it may indicate either a revelatory gift or that the Lord wants to show you a particular thing about your life. See

In Ezekiel 40. The prophet is shown the measuring of the “temple” except it is like no earthly temple ever built. It is symbolic of the New Jerusalem with “windows all around” being a repeated feature. This speaks of the “seeing” that Jesus gives us when we humble ourselves to acknowledge Him as true Lord of Heaven, earth and of ourselves in particular. We receive a revelation of the New Jerusalem or Heavenly Zion to which the writer of Hebrews says believers have already come!

The windows of heaven also speak of salvation as we see in Malachi 3:10.

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and put Me to the test now in this,” says the Lord of armies, “if I do not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.”

This verse is often misquoted by churchianity leaders to extort money from their congregations. On pain of a curse – the previous verse speaks about the whole natural nation of Israel being cursed because they refused to give the food over to the priests. The tithes of produce was for food provision for priests, which all believers are today – because they are “In” the High Priest, Jesus Christ. The tithe is a shadow of Christ’s food. It actually points to Christ and His word of salvation. To reject the work of our High Priest Jesus is to remain under the curse of Adam. To accept Him is to open the windows of heaven. The blessing of the Old Testament always points to salvation.

A window can also be speaking of discernment of something wise, as in wise judgment of how to behave in a godly way and discernment/ judgment of evil ways. In Proverbs 7:6-7 wisdom is presented as a person (personified) as various things. In verse , it is a mother / parent watching unwise behaviour to warn her son not to follow the wrong path:

“For at the window of my house
I looked out through my lattice,
And I saw among the naive,
And discerned among the youths
A young man lacking sense.”

In this case wisdom, as a parent looks through a holy perspective and the parent can symbolise the newly created perfection of Christ in a believer (the dreamer, even if the parent stands apart from you in the dream). It can also represent the ecclesial group you are in if you have been given some wise advice and are using your free will to resist it. the Holy Spirit then comes in a dream to advise you to turn to the Lord.
